The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting youth oriented programmes in the state.
The Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo gave the assurance, Wednesday, during a courtesy call on him by Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Forum.
He said the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration is committed to supporting programmes that will improve the orientation of young persons in the state.
“Listening to you speak shows that you’re on the right track. Anything that has to do with changing the orientation of our youths has my support. I’m always open for interaction with those who have great ideas that can move this state forward.
“There’s no question that this is a fantastic idea. I’m very certain the Governor will adopt this idea. As long as the Governor’s endorsement has been given out, we cannot withhold our support, everything will fall in place. It’s a great thing you came with the principal people involved,” he maintained.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Social Reorientation, Mr Ekpeno Gold, had said as an aide to the Governor on Social Reorientation, his job would not be complete if he does not partner with organizations working to engineer the entrepreneurial drive of the present administration as well as instill moral values into the minds of the Akwa Ibom youths.
He stressed that the Akwa Ibom Teenagers Forum with over 4,000 members and coordinators in the 31 Local Government Areas of the state are ready to support the Governor till 2023.
In his address, the Secretary of the 2017 Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Conference,
Comrade Martins Jimmy, said, “Akwa Ibom State Teenager’s Forum is a forum for all the teenagers in the state. It is a non-profit organization aimed at educating and advancing the talents of young teenagers by striving to improve their moral standards and also give them a direction in building their career with our reorientation programmes.
“Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Forum was formed in the year 2009, the forum got its license to operate and involve in both cultural and tourism activities in the year 2011 through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Akwa Ibom state. We hosted the first and biggest teenager’s week in South-South Nigeria and since then we have been celebrating teenagers annually.
“Today, we are proud to tell you that 10 of our teenagers are on state teenager’s scholarship and all this would not have been a success if not because of the forum”.
Comrade Martins while appreciating the Deputy Governor on his numerous contributions to the development of the state, intimated him of the Akwa Ibom State Teenagers Conference 2017 tagged, “Reorientation To Life, The New Hope For A Better Nation And For A Sustainable Economic Development” coming up on March 31, 2017 and solicited for support from the State Government, which he said is aimed at the reorientation the teenagers in the state on ethical values.
He revealed that the Conference will also feature cultural exhibition by teenagers and the official unveiling of the 2017 project, “The State Counseling Centre”, a Centre that cater for the counseling needs of teenagers in the state.
