President of The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama has charged the newly inaugurated National Executives of the Catholic Women Organization (CWON) of Nigeria to be shinning ambassadors of motherhood and family values.
Kaigama gave the charge at the holy mass to end the first 2017 plenary session of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria and swearing in New Executives of the CWON held at the Our lady Queen of Nigeria Pro cathedral, Archdiocese of Abuja, Area 3, Garki, Abuja on Sunday.
In his homily, Archbishop of Abuja, John Onaiyekan condemned the killings by herdsmen and the massacre in Southern Kaduna. He advised that cattles should be restricted to legally acquired land by owners.
He prayed the quick recovery and safe return of President Mohammadu Buhari prayed God’s wisdom and divine guidance for Acting president, Yemi Osinbajo to lead the country.
Cardinal Onaiyekan condemned the non payment and delay in paying pensioners in the country. He said it is the duty of government to take care of the less privileged, aged and disadvantaged.
Swearing in the new executive, President of The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama admonished the women to show good examples to other organization in the church. He encouraged them to contribute in building of the church of Christ.
Barr. Mrs Nwanneka C. Okono was sworn in as National President of the CWO. Lady Ojadi Stella as National Secretary while Mrs Regina Finbarr received the oath as National Public Relations Officer.
Mrs Regina Finbarr was until her new office the Provost 1 of the Catholic Women Organization at the Calabar Ecclesiastical Province level covering Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Calabar, Ogoja and Port Harcourt Dioceses.
Finbarr is a graduate of music from University of Uyo and in 2013 retired from the Akwa Ibom State civil service as a school principal. She is also the Liturgical Music Director for the Catholic Women in Uyo Diocese.
Other members of the executive sworn in were: Mrs Felicia Woodsy, National 1st Vice President, Mrs Bola Aina National 2nd Vice President, Mrs Rifkatu J Shekari , Assistant Secretary 1, Mrs Agnes Etim, Assistant Secretary 2, Mrs Esther Omale National Financial Secretary, Mrs Beatrice Oyakhi, Treasurer, Mrs Dorathy Nwachukwu, National Auditor 1, Mrs Cecilia Y. Esan, National Auditor 2, Chief Mrs Gladys F Aina, National Provost 1 and Mrs Clara Ugh National Provost 2.
The highlight of the mass of thanksgiving was the reading of the communique of the catholic bishops conference.
In attendance was the primate of all Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Revd. Nicholas D. Okoh, Minister of science and technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and all the catholic bishops in Nigeria.
