The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Burutai has commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his consistent support to the army and other military formations leading to the existent peace in Akwa Ibom state.
He said the decision of the Nigerian Army Council to relocate the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army from Port Harcourt to Uyo stemmed from the strategic location of the State and its importance in the overall security of the country.
The Army chief disclosed this during a courtesy call on Governor Udom Emmanuel in his office in Uyo.
Buratai especially lauded the governor for the state joint security force code named ‘Operation Thunder’, and added that Governor Emmanuel assisted the smooth take-off of the 2 Division in Uyo with the provision of land as well as a temporary settlement at the state security village for the brigade.
He announced the investiture of Ordinary Member, Brigade Officers’ Mess, on the governor.
Burutai assured that the Army Command Secondary School scheduled to commence session this year in the state will be of high standard and comes with an army children school and a barracks.
He commiserated with the Governor and people of the state over the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Reigners Church in December last year, and prayed to God to forestall any re-occurrence.
Responding, Governor Udom Emmanuel appreciated the Chief of Army Staff over the brigade command in Uyo and described him as a highly detribalized Nigerian whose commitment has led to the victory against insurgency in the country.
Governor Emmanuel spoke glowingly about the Army Command Secondary School, saying it was an investment for the future.
“It is said that if you want to plan for the future, plan for education. Giving us an Army Command Secondary School means that you really mean well for us,” he said.
“Let me also state here that the improvement of security at the 36 states of the federation is a very welcome development and I will really want to convey from all the indigenes of this state our appreciation for what you’ve done so far for us, and also hope you’ll continue to do more,” Governor Emmanuel concluded.
