Familiarization Visit to Media Houses: The Mail, Pulse Newspaper Host NUJ Boss @themailngr

The visit to the Mail Newspaper

In continuation of the ongoing familiarization visit to active Media Houses in the State, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert yesterday visited The Mail Newspaper and The Nigerian Pulse Newspaper.

In the respective visit, the Chairman noted that the visit was designed to have a closer interface with members different from what the congress offers.

He stated that it is his conviction that NUJ should not only be concerned about welfare of members but should be involved with professional growth of members.

He urged members to put forth excellent reports that can compete for awards at any level.

” There are many journalists in this State who have excellent talents. It is just a matter of developing it to a height that can fetch you reputable awards. In journalism, your credentials make you to be seen as being qualified but what really qualifies you is your proficiency.

“Any journalist who prides himself as a journalist but does not write is not a journalist. Reporting and reporting well is very important. Creativity is required as far this business is concerned.”

The Chairman charged newsmen to endeavour to balance their role of speaking for the people and government. He stressed that ethical compliance should be the watchword.

At The Mail Newspaper, the NUJ helmsman commended the Medium pagination and its ability to attract credible writers for contribution to the Newspaper’s content. He noted that with the contribution from The Mail Staff towards media vibrancy in the State, he was certain The Mail Newspaper will attain greater height.

At the Nigerian Pulse Newspaper Elder Albert commended the Medium over its longstanding ability and effort in birthing other publishers coupled with nurturing many reporters in the State.

Responding respectively, the Editor-in-Chief of The Mail Newspaper, Mr Ifreke Nsewo thanked the NUJ Chairman for initiating the visit and finding the Medium fit to be visited among the first batch.

He said that in just one year, four months of operation, The Mail Newspaper has strived to carve an enviable niche for itself, the reason the online portal of the medium emerged best online medium at the 2016 NUJ Award. He also offered insight to the fact that the Medium is poised on living up to the award it bagged in less than a year of operation when it emerged as the Best Newspaper in the State at Akwa Awards.

Mr Nsewo appreciated Elder Albert for what he described as the massive work he is doing in NUJ stressing that he is confident the Union must be proud for reelecting him.

Earlier, the Editor- in-chief of The Nigerian Pulse Newspaper, Mr Kufre Etuk commended the NUJ Chairman for his drive in not only developing the Union

through infrastructural renaissance but also giving attention to professional development.

He called on the Chairman to give more attention to screening and re-screening of members in other to check quackery.
