Dishonesty in politics is nothing new, but the manner in which some politicians deceive and the resultant havoc theses lies may wreck become issues to be cautiously avoided.
Recently, the Forum of erstwhile councillors in Uyo Local Government Area visited the residence of the Members representing Uyo State Constituency at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Honourable Monday Eyo Okon. The visit was made for the presentation of the forum as a new group to the honourable member.
Receiving about nineteen (19) members of the forum, Hon. Eyo thanked them for initiating such a platform and made a suggestion that former councillors who are members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) should also be given the privilege of becoming members of the group. He gave them beer and mineral and a cash donation of N100,000.
Furthermore, at the end of the visit and at the point of departure of the forum members, Hon. Monday Eyo solicited for photographs to be taken. Afterwards, which his Special Assistant took the said photos to the social media, reporting that a vote of confidence was passed on Hon. Eyo by the forum, following his people oriented motions and bills on the floor of the State Assembly and his sponsored life touching project (which are unheard of).
But then, I have communicated with more than half of the former councillors who were part of the delegation and they have all denied passing a vote of confidence on the lawmaker as reported by his Special Assistant.
Expressing dissapoinment, one of them described the report as a delibrate attempt at misleading the public, while others have equally described the said report of praising the lawmaker as an outrageous lie.
Another ex-councillor who pleaded ananymous for untold reasons said “I was flabbergasted when I saw the post on social media that we praised him over a bill. Who is not aware that Monday Eyo is sponsoring anti-people’s bill targeted at bringing more poverty and hardship to resident of Uyo? My brother, we only went there to show him the group as one of us”, he said. He therefore called on the House member to advice his aide to put an end to such careless attitude.
“If there was a vote of confidence passed on the Assembly man, it would have been released to the media by the forum”, he added, advising the aide to refrain from fabricating mischievous stories to score cheap political goals.
