Following the outbreak of Coronavirus and the threat it poses, the Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Uwem-Andrew Essien has directed that, the ongoing Pension Verification Exercise be postponed.
The Accountant General in a statement Thursday said, the postponement became necessary in view of the health dangers inherent in the gathering of large number of people at a time.
With this development, pensioners from Uyo Senatorial District and Uyo Sub Treasury who were billed to be screened on 23rd through 27th March, 2020 and 6th through 10th April, 2020 respectively, are please advised to remain calm as new dates would be communicated to them.
Pastor Andrew-Essien said the Pension Verification Exercise would resume once there is respite from the coronavirus.
He said as a Government committed to the wellbeing of her citizenry, the present administration led by Mr. Udom Emmanuel would do everything within its power to protect as well as provide the best in terms of health care delivery.
The Accountant General regrets all inconveniences the postponement of the screening exercise may have caused the pensioners.
Pension verification is a yearly exercise conducted by the Office of the Accountant General for pensioners including primary school teachers to establish the actual number of pensioners on Government payroll.
