Hon. Barr. Imo Akpan, the Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State in the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has led a high-level stakeholder engagement aimed at advancing the review of Nigeria’s current revenue allocation formula.
The meeting, held as part of ongoing nationwide consultations, saw the RMAFC delegation interface with the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), a key institution in coordinating federal government activities.
Representing the SGF at the meeting was Dr. Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, who received the delegation and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting reforms that will ensure a more equitable and efficient revenue sharing framework.
The engagement also brought together critical stakeholders from the Federal Ministry of Justice, Nigeria Revenue Service, Federal Ministry of Finance, and the National Bureau of Statistics, underscoring the collaborative approach required for the reform process.
Speaking during the session, Hon. Akpan emphasized the importance of broad-based consultations in developing a revenue allocation formula that reflects current economic realities, promotes fiscal sustainability, and ensures fairness across all tiers of government.
He noted that the ongoing review is part of efforts by the RMAFC to reposition Nigeria’s fiscal structure in line with global best practices, while also addressing longstanding concerns around revenue distribution.
The meeting marks another step in the Commission’s nationwide drive to engage relevant institutions and stakeholders in shaping a new revenue allocation formula capable of driving inclusive growth and national development.
