Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, will today December 15, 2025, commission newly constructed 1.4 kilometres internal roads at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.
The project, delivered under the security management aspiration of the ARISE Agenda, represents another deliberate investment in security infrastructure with the view of improving access, efficiency and the overall working environment for officers and personnel entrusted with safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Also, the newly completed internal roads within the Police Headquarters complex will also ensure smoother response times, easier navigation and improved operational coordination for the command.
Beyond the immediate benefit to the Nigeria Police, the project speaks to a broader infrastructure philosophy that has defined Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
According to a statement by the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the latest addition brings the total length of roads undertaken or completed to over 965 kilometres, an unmistakable statement of intent in opening up communities, institutions and critical public spaces.
Today’s commissioning, scheduled for 4pm, is an affirmation of government’s recognition of the central role security institutions play in maintaining peace, stability and the confidence required for economic and social activities to thrive.
The State Chief Executive has since assumption of office worked the talk in ensuring that Akwa Ibom people go about their daily economic ventures without fear.
Aside from the creation of the Ministry of Internal Security, the Governor believes that the primary responsibility of any government is the security and welfare of the people, because without security, there can’t be any development.
Under his watch, security which forms a critical component of the ARISE Agenda, has moved from aspiration to action. His administration is not reactive to security issues; it is proactive, deliberate and very intentional.
In his quest to strengthen security in the state, Governor Eno has established the Ibom Community Watch, a local network that works alongside institutionalized security agencies to provide crowd control and strategic services at the community level.
He has supplied 14 gunboats to the Nigerian Navy Joint Patrol Team and vehicles to the Rapid Response Squad of the State Police Command, ensuring officers are fully equipped to serve effectively.
Also, the State Command and Control Centre is under construction at Dominic Utuk Avenue, Uyo, and when completed, will serve as the nerve centre for surveillance, coordination, and rapid response across the state.
The Governor has partnered with the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Air Force to establish operational bases in the state and also announced a strategic partnership with several private security firms.
All of these underscores his administration’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges in the state.
In addition, police stations across Akwa Ibom have been modernized, with solar panels installed to ensure seamless operations.
Governor Eno has also launched the Security Trust Fund, a public/private partnership designed to provide modern surveillance equipment, improve intelligence gathering, and support security operatives with training and logistics.
This initiative reflects a leadership that sees security as a shared responsibility, one that engages government, corporate partners, traditional institutions, and citizens alike.
As stakeholders, security agencies, the media and members of the public gather to witness today’s commissioning, the message is very clear that, under the current administration, infrastructure is not only deployed to connect roads and communities, but also to strengthen institutions and deepen the foundations of good governance.
