In a rare show of unity, the Deputy Governors of Akwa Ibom and Abia States came together in Ikot Udo to call for lasting peace between the Ika and Ukwa East communities.
Senator Akon Eyakenyi of Akwa Ibom urged residents to embrace development over disputes, highlighting Governor Umo Eno’s bottom-up approach that has spread infrastructure across all 31 local government areas. She emphasized that progress cannot thrive without good roads, pointing to the ongoing construction projects by both states.
Her Abia counterpart, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, echoed the sentiment, stressing that the road linking the two communities is not about dividing boundaries but about connecting people for posterity. He warned against violence and urged youths to channel their energy into productive ventures.
Local leaders from both sides expressed gratitude to Governors Umo Eno and Alex Otti for their commitment to peace, calling on all stakeholders to give tranquility a genuine chance.
