We don’t take Workers welfare for granted-A’Ibom Speaker

The Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke, has attributed the achievements recorded by the State assembly to the supporting role played by civil servants working in the legislature.
Luke who stated this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Joint Public Service Negotiation Council, said issues “we don’t take for granted issues that affects workers in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. We in the legislature understands the place of workers of the state in the Akwa Ibom projects spanning beyond successive administrations in the state”.

“We wouldn’t have achieved what we were able to achieve without the support of workers here in the House of Assembly. Whatever we have been able to achieve today is greatly attributed to the efforts and support of workers”.

The Speaker who further described the relationship existing between the legislature and workers as cordial, commended members of the Joint Public Service Negotiation Council for being in the forefront of the struggle for the betterment of the wellbeing of workers in the state.

Earlier, Secretary of the Joint Council and Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Comrade Akamba Awah thanked the Speaker for the intervening role he has been playing in matters concerning workers wellbeing, saying labour appreciates his effort.
He pointed out that the Speaker’s effort has helped greatly in enhancing industrial harmony between workers and the government.
The Speaker later held a close door meeting with the JPSNC team where issues of concern to workers were raised.

In attendance during the meeting were the Deputy Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Hon. Usoro AkpanUsoh, Members representing Etinan, Barr. Aniefiok Dennis, Mbo, Hon. Samuel Ufuo, ONNA, Otuekong Nse Essien and the lawmaker representing Nsit Ibom State constituency, Princess Mfon Ekong.
Also present were the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren, as well as Heads of department in the Assembly.
