EDUCATION IN A’IBOM STATE: A CITADEL OF EXCELLENCE

Education is regarded as the bedrock of any nation that seeks to propel its social, economic and political advancement. It is the tool that has catapulted many of the emerging world economic powers to where they are today.

It is a consuming passion of Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration to the people of Akwa Ibom State. From 2007 till date, education has moved from ruins and commodities beyond reach to citadels of equal opportunities practising well articulated and state Government fortified Universal Basic Education(UBE)scheme, with government regularly raising standards to ensure greater performance.

Gov Udom Emmanuel apparently has ensured free and compulsory education for primary and secondary schools with free textbooks which has been described by National Association of Nigerian students as an incredible vision,concepts and implementation.

The government also carter for educational needs for the population with spacious classrooms well equipped laboratories and workshops and administrative facilities.

Apart from making primary and secondary education free, Governor Udom Emmanuel has paid off school heads for logistics, pay SSCE and NABTEB fees for all students, provides financial incentives at tertiary level such as scholarships to study abroad as well as disbursement of bursary to akwa ibom students in tertiary institutions nation wide.

The government provide the right environment to optimise personal aspirations and for different professions to thrive has been developed, which make it possible to build careers out of intellectual capital. Also provides mechanisms to nurture, manifest latent talent and abilities among the students for effectiveness and sustainable career development and management, also provides in abundance to requisite skills, knowledge based on economy.

Inspectors go round schools to make sure the right things are done, teachers are motivated, trained and adequately supervised to ensure better delivery and also train students to memorize raw facts and regurgitate same in examination.

In other words, the government has reorganized and reposition educational system for qualitative results and greater functionality to discouraged corruption, academic dishonesty, misconducts, examination malpractice and a host of other unethical practices, impact teaching processes to build the knowledge components of the state Economy
