Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially launched the construction of the Ibom CNG Mass Transit Terminal at Ikot Ekpe Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, reaffirming his vision of delivering a modern Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Bus Transportation System for the state.
The groundbreaking ceremony was more than just an infrastructure project it marked the unveiling of a broader agenda centered on job creation, sustainable mobility, and economic growth. Since assuming office, Governor Eno has consistently emphasized the role of public transportation as a driver of efficiency and environmental responsibility.

His embrace of CNG-powered buses demonstrates a forward thinking approach that recognizes the link between energy transition and economic development. The terminal project aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes clean energy and affordable transportation solutions nationwide.
Designed as a hub for CNG-powered transit, the Ibom CNG Mass Transit Terminal will provide residents with a safer, cheaper, and greener alternative to conventional fuel buses. It also positions Akwa Ibom to benefit from Nigeria’s emerging clean energy ecosystem.
Beyond easing daily commutes, the initiative is expected to create jobs, build technical expertise in CNG operations, and improve urban mobility. Governor Eno has consistently stressed the importance of infrastructure that directly impacts citizens’ lives, and this project embodies that philosophy by combining innovation with practical solutions.

The terminal will not only serve as a base for mass transit operations but also house facilities for maintenance, coordination, and future expansion. Upon completion, it will feature a CNG refueling station, a training school, a police post, and a modern loading bay ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

Governor Eno described the project as a crucial step toward modernizing public transport, stimulating economic activity, and preparing the state for a future where cost-effectiveness and sustainability define public systems.
