The General Hospital, situated at the local government headquarters at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, was inaugurated in 1991 by the then governor of the state, Group Captain Idongesit Nkanga, and has been decaying over the years. Virtually all the wards and medical equipments in the hospital are outdated. The roofs had decayed and carved in, as the theatre has been vacated due to leakages.

Good health and physical well-being of the people are major indices that determine the healthy condition of a nation or state. A vibrant and healthy populace contributes maximally to the development processes of government, as human resource is a very essential part in the growth and expansion of all sectors.

The flag off of this exercise is particularly by his personal intervention.

“The entire roof of the building will be replaced, after which everything within the hospital will be renovated including the fences and the gates. In other words, there will be a brand new General hospital in Ikono before the end of this year.

“Our expectation is that by October ending, this place will not only be rehabilitated, but we will also have equipment and medical personnel. On the day the that this hospital will be reopened to provide all the services, there will be one week free medical outreach with a minimum of 20 doctors with different specialties including Gynaecologist, Neurosurgeon, Physician and general practitioners. There will be proper management at the hospital as there will be enough doctors, pharmacists, nurses including cleaners,” Mr Umoh further stated.
