The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke made a commitment that the legislature under his watch will continue to make the interest of Akwa Ibom people paramount in it’s agenda.
Luke made the commitment earlier today while presenting a goodwill message on behalf of the Akwa Ibom Legislature at the 30th Anniversary celebration of the state which held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
While expressing gratitude to God for having given us the state and leading us through the journey 30 years down the line, the Speaker in his message, made three commitments on the continued cooperation between the 6th Assembly and other arms of government for the development of the state; placing premium on the interest of the general Akwa Ibom people; and contributing towards ensuring that the efforts of past heroes in the state are not wasted in vain.
His words: “my colleagues, the members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly are saying that they join their voices with the government and people of this great state, to return all glory to God for what He did in the year 1987, and for taking us through that journey from 1987 till today, the 23rd day of September, 2017.
The second thing the House of Assembly has to say is that, we appreciate the efforts of our founding fathers who fought, who thought and who gathered to agitate for the creation of Akwa Ibom State.
To other leaders who at time or the other, had the opportunity to superintend over this state, we thank them and their cabinet. And we have seen the footprints of infrastructural development and transformation that they left on ground.
As a House of Assembly, we have three commitments to make. Number one commitment is that what was handed over to us as a legislature was that of cooperating with the other arms of government for the development of this state. And we shall not allow that die in our arms. We shall continue to cooperate with the other arms of government for the development of the state. Because the result of this cooperation is the development that you have seen in the state.
The second commitment is that we will continue make the interest of Akwa Ibom people which we represent paramount in our agenda. Thirdly, we say that we should not allow, and we will never allow the efforts of our heroes past be in vain”.
Congratulations, Your Excellency, Congratulations, Akwa Ibom Ibom people. May God bless all of us in Jesus name.”
