The Police Service Commission has promoted Felix M. Ekpoudom to Deputy Superintendent of Police. Ekpoudom was decorated as DSP by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, penultimate Friday.
Speaking in Uyo while decorating 44 assistant superintendents of police newly promoted to the rank of deputy superintendents of police, Mr Awunah, who described the coming of the promotions as God’s appointed time, urged them to justify their new ranks by increasing their commitment to the service of the state and nation.
Awunah said that promotion was aimed at motivating officers. According to him, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, since assumption of office has elevated over 5,000 police officers.
He said, “promotion is a component of the Nigeria Police Force reward system. Since the IGP’s assumption of the office, he has promoted about 5,000 ASPs.
“This is a remarkable achievement. Motivation is one of the cardinal objectives of reward systems, which in this case is promotion.
“The IGP has said that promotion is a continuous process. So, you must work hard to earn it.”
While commending the officers for their hard work and achievements which prompted their promotion, the police commissioner emphasised that any promoted officers who flouted the law would be punished.
He noted that promotion could not be all merry as there were gains and pains.
He asked the promoted officers to see their elevation as a call to greater performance.
One of the promoted officers, who spoke on behalf of others, Gloria James, thanked the force for recognising their hard work.
James pledged that she and her colleagues would do their best in the service of the police to protect lives and property.
