… Apostle Isong lauds Governor Emmanuel, works commissioner

The Akwa Ibom State Government has assured that, the massive ongoing construction of roads in the state will not be allowed to endanger gas pipelines.
Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen gave the assurance during a visit to seven spots where gas pipelines traverse roads under construction in Uruan, Uyo, Etinan, Onna and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas on February 28, 2017.
Inyangeyen who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Effiong Essien and officials of Seven Energy Exploration and Production Limited to on-the-spot inspection of gas pipelines traversing various ongoing road projects, said the aim was to collaborate with the company to design a universal approach to building roads across the pipelines without damaging or bursting them.
The works Commissioner noted that, such avoidable carelessness will be unfortunate if allowed to happen and cost the state a fortune to fix apart from the imminent danger it poses to the community. Besides, he stressed that, the gas pipelines supply gas to Ibom Power Plant at Ikot Abasi and any damage to Pipelines will shut down electricity supply and output from the plant. He assured that Engineers from the Ministry will collaborate with Project managers from the companies handling the various roads and Seven Energy officials to work out acceptable remedies to build roads without compromising standards.
The Road Projects with gas pipelines inspected were, Construction of Anua- Mbak-Ishiet road and spurs, dualization of Ikot Oku Ikono- Etinan road, the Ikot Ebibang -Ikot Ebekpo road and spur and the ongoing Etinan -Ndon Eyo road, with others in Oruk Anam Local Government.
Earlier, Commissioner Inyangeyen unveiled the official website of the Ministry of Works for public access to know what the Government is doing in that sector.
He revealed that, about 9 additional roads will be undertaken by the state Government, including a 55.1 kilometre Ibom super highway road project between Esit-Eket and Ibeno that would traverse through the forest to Uya-Oron in Oron local government area to the deep seaport which will commence soon.
Mr. Ephraim Inyang also hinted that government has reactivated the Etebi Ewang bridge/road project, as it has ordered the contractor to return to site for the purpose of completing the project.
The commissioner also disclosed that, among road projects approved for construction by the state government are, 3.5 kilometer Ring road 2, and ring road 3, while ring road 4 has been put on hold to allow for the completion of the other two ring roads before it could be considered. Ring road 2 will link, Abak road through Aka-Nung Udoe and would traverse Oron road to Nwaniba. Other road projects that has been approved for construction include, 5 kilometer-Jetty road in Okobo with a spur at the fish market in Atabong. Also, Annua-fish market, Ikot Ebekpo-Ikot Ebidang road has been awarded.
Other road intervention projects that the state government has approved for construction are, Ette junction road to Abak, 4 kilometer internal roads in Obong University, Obong-Ntak, Etim Ekpo, remodelling of Utu Etim Ekpo round about in Etim-Ekpo, construction of Ikot Ada idem -FULGA-Ediene Ikot Obio Imo road in Ibiono Ibom.
In fulfillment of the promise he made to the people of Nsit- Ubium while reacting to a request by the representative of the area in the legislature, and Speaker of the House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke during a reception rally held in honor of the Governor and the Speaker, the Works Commissioner announced that Governor Udom has awarded contract for the construction of 13 km -Ukat Aran-Obio- Ubium -Ikot Ubo road with a spur at Edem Idim Okpot with 2 Nos bridge.
The government has also included the construction of a 4km Mbiatok-Ekit Itam -Mbiaya Uruan road, 12km, Ikot Akpan Abia -Oboyo Ikot Ita-Eta Eren Nsit road in Nsit Ibom in the list of new road projects to be executed.
Meanwhile, the Prelate of the Believers Evangelical Church, Nigeria, Apostle Dr. Isaiah Isong has commended the governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for what he said is the excellent and sustained development of roads and other infrastructure which he said will make the state greater.
Apsotle Isong also endorsed the Works Commissioner, Mr Inyangeyen, who he described as a hard-working, focused and diligent man and called on the good people of the state to support Government succeed.
