There are histories that cannot easily become dormant, no matter who and what is involved; for the people of Uyo Local Government Area and by extension, Akwa Ibom state, one of such histories is that of 7th April.
The 7th day of the fourth month of the year is the 97th day of the year (98th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar and worthy of note is the fact that there are 268 days remaining until the end of the year and also this date is slightly more likely to fall on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday (58 in 400 years each) than on Sunday or Monday (57), and slightly less likely to occur on a Wednesday or Friday (56).
Historically, 7th April is known world over for remarkable events that took place on the date, some of which include – A slave revolt that broke out in New York City in 1712; the hosting of the first camel race in America in Sacramento, California in 1865; the first long-distance TV transmission sent from Washington, DC, to New York City in 1927 from which the audience saw an image of Commerce Secretary Herbert; Hoover; Booker T. Washington becoming the first black to be pictured on a U.S. postage stamp in 1940; the Japanese battleship Yamato, the world’s largest battleship sinking during the battle for Okinawa when the fleet was headed for a suicide mission in 1945 and also the beginning of Operations by the United Nations’ World Health Organization in 1948. But most remarkable of the historical events of April 7 for the people of Uyo Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State in general is the birth of its illustrious and dependable son, Elder Imo Okon.
The joy and celebration of the historic birth of the Uyo top politician and God’s servant who was born to lead the people of Uyo Local Government to its destined glory has failed to seize ever since it started on April 7, years ago therefore making the date an unforgettable in the history of Uyo.

The Hope for a better Uyo Local Government Area which is currently cooling the nerves of the people of Uyo as they await the 2017 Local Government election wouldn’t have existed but not for the birth of Elder Imo Okon on 7th April, years ago.
The Ikono Uyo born medical scientist cum politician is not only a man behind the April 7 historical date but also a maker of history having became one of the youngest Elder ordained in the history of Qua Iboe Church in 2005 and has, since ordination, shown tremendous and outstanding performance in church Leadership and administration.
Medical experts across Nigeria could not help than join in the April 7 celebration owing to the undiscardable records and contributions of this thorough bred Haematologist/ Immunologist who has worked meritoriously in the Federal Civil Service for over two decades before diving into the political sea and his activeness in this political sea earned the Udom/Moses Ekpo 2015 Divine mandate an overwhelming victory in Uyo Local Government.
Today, the April 7 celebration continues and with strong hope that in a no distant time, the full potential of the man behind the 7th April celebration which is currently been explored by the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party will soon be equally explored by the entire people of Uyo for the betterment of Uyo Local Government Area.
As the Uyo Local Government and the entire people of Akwa Ibom State celebrate the State Vice Chairman of the People Democratic Party, Elder Imo Okon on his 2017 birthday, hope is renewed that certainly the toga, “OH UYO” will soon been translated into the true meaning of its dream by this great mobilizer, orator, objective, courageous, honest and loyal politician who is incomparably customized for Uyo Local Government Area.
