The member representing Itu Itu State Constituency in the AKHA, Hon. (Prince) Idongesit Ituen has said his passion to develop young talented players that would play out-side the country is the reason he investing in foot-ball in Akwa Ibom State.
Hon. Ituen made this known while chatting with sports journalists in Uyo last week. The lawmaker who his currently organizing the first edition of Akwa Ibom Community Shield competition in the State, said he is interested in discovering players at the tender age in order to train them as well as make them future players that would represent the State and the country internationally.
He noted that he is trying to set up agenda for the country and that the competition is a personal initiative which would be helping to stop age cheat that have been going on in every foot-ball competition in Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, “The competition is to discover talented players at the early stage. Though, it is new and may not really make sense now, in years to come the competition will make a great impact. We are trying to see how we can bring up our local stars and organize a tournament for them.”
While disclosing that in the next four weeks, the maiden edition of Akwa Ibom Community Shield competition will come to an end, Ituen said that immediately he will put up a committee to organize the second edition even as he stressed that in years to come, other States will emulate his vision in sport development.
He said that the tournament was mainly for the winners and runners up of various local competitions in the States and that registration for the tournament is free, adding that 48 teams registered for the maiden edition of the tournament.
In his words, ” I have a lot of interest in discovering talents. I want to raise players that we have never had in the international football, so we have to raise them and push them to top.” Ituen stated.
