Galvanization of Fishing and Agricultural value chain tops the agenda as Dakkada MPCS tour kicks off in Ibeno

Identification and optimization of the various links in the fishing and agricultural value chain is the focal objective as the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr Ime Uwah today commenced a tour of local Government Chapters of the Dakkada Multipurpose Cooperative Society (DMPCS). The tour which commenced at Ibeno Local Government Area today, 5th March 2020, will see the SSA and his team visit the 31 Chapters of the Co-operative Unions.

At Ibeno, the SSA was received by the President of Ibeno 1 Dakkada MPCS, Princess Regina Eshiet who proceeded to take the SSA and his team on a tour to see individual members business activities ranging from fishing, processing and trading. In his remark, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr Ime Uwah said the aim of the tour was to monitor progress of the various projects and initiatives of the chapters of the DMPCS, identify challenges and most importantly help them galvanize the value chains in the fishing and agricultural sector.

Uwah said the Governor in his completion agenda is poised to provide the enabling environment to attract relevant investors and industries that will off take some of the primary production in communities in the state.

He further stated that he hopes to encourage collaboration and cooperation of the various players in the value chain of business at the grassroots to enhance their efficiency and profitability.

“with this tour we hope to further encourage and revive cooperation and partnership amongst micro-business owners to enable effective and efficient operations ensuring scalability.” he added.

The Governor’s Aide further stated that Akwa Ibomites shouldn’t just talk about the Ibom deep sea port, but be proactive in preparing to take advantage of the opportunities that will be created.

Speaking earlier, the President of the Dakkada Multipurpose Co-operative Society (Ibeno 1), Princess Regina Eshiet,
thanked the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel through his aide for the attention given to the grassroot entrepreneurs. She highlighted the various challenges faced by the Ibeno 1 Dakkada MPCS to include processing, transportation of goods, inadequate finances, insufficient storage facilities and good infrastructure around their processing outlet; and solicited for support from the state government so as to ameliorate the plight of members of the cooperative.

A member of the Ibeno 1 Dakkada MPCS, Mrs Adiaha Patrick Ulaeto was inducted as honourary member of the Dakkada Business and leadership forum by the SSA for her exemplary business acumen and enterprise.
