In a heartwarming stride toward rural development, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned a solar powered borehole and community phone charging station in Ikot Ebo Ikono, Uyo LGA. This project, donated by his Special Assistant on Digital Marketing and Social Media, Mr. Uduak Inwang, is more than infrastructure it’s a lifeline for a community long deprived of clean water and electricity.
For years, residents of Ikot Ebo had to trek to neighboring villages just to charge their phones or fetch potable water. With the new solar-powered borehole and 50 free charging points, those struggles are now history. Governor Eno, represented by Hon. Ubuo Ubuo, hailed the initiative as a shining example of purposeful leadership and urged the community to safeguard the facilities against vandalism.
Mr. Inwang explained that the project was inspired by the belief that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. He emphasized that the charging station would ease the burden of residents who previously traveled miles to power their devices. His wife, Engineer Itoro Inwang, added that the facilities were installed free of charge and equipped with CCTV cameras for security.

The event wasn’t just about infrastructure it was about compassion. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, represented by Mrs. Eno Akpan, distributed bags of rice to widows, reinforcing the spirit of giving back. The Village Head, Eteidung Samuel Moses Udo, expressed heartfelt gratitude, recalling the community’s past struggles and requesting a transformer to further boost development.
This project ties directly into Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation. It’s a clear signal that when government and citizens collaborate, communities thrive.

From dignitaries like Dr. Essien Ndueso and Mr. Ubong Udofia to grassroots leaders, the commissioning was a celebration of unity, vision, and progress. Mr. Inwang encouraged residents to support the administration and participate in voter registration, ensuring their voices continue to shape the future.

Ikot Ebo Ikono now stands as a beacon of what’s possible when leadership meets compassion. Clean water, powered phones, and renewed hope proof that development isn’t just about policies, but about people.
