The Federal Government has charged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) to ensure strict transparency and measurable outcomes in the rollout of its newly unveiled Gas Master Plan.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday at the official presentation of the plan, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, stressed that success would be judged not by policy statements but by tangible benefits to Nigerians. He outlined expectations that the country’s vast gas reserves must translate into reliable electricity, industrial expansion, clean cooking solutions, jobs, and improved living standards.
Ekpo emphasized discipline in execution, stronger stakeholder collaboration, and clear accountability mechanisms. He revealed that the plan targets national gas production of 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion by 2030, prioritizing domestic consumption.
Commending NNPC and partners, Ekpo noted the roadmap aligns with the Decade of Gas Initiative and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
NNPC Group CEO, Mr. Bashir Ojulari, described the plan as a step toward building a unified gas system to power industries and strengthen oversight through clear benchmarks. Board Chairman Mr. Ahmadu Kida reaffirmed the board’s commitment to transparent governance and long-term value delivery.
The event also featured the signing of a Statement of Commitment, a Ministerial Statement, and the launch of a ₦20 million LPG cylinder supply initiative slated for 2026.
