Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has inaugurated a seven member Governing Council for the state-owned Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), with Senator Udoma Udo Udoma named as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
The Governor also congratulated His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Etuk, JP, CFR Oku Ibom Ibibio on his appointment as Chancellor, alongside Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan, who was confirmed as substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Commendation for Leadership and Accreditation
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah praised Prof. Akpan’s leadership, which recently secured full accreditation for AKSU’s Faculty of Law and other academic programs.
He described the achievement as a milestone made possible through collaboration with regulatory agencies, noting that AKSU has become one of the most sought-after universities by prospective students both within and outside the state.
Education as a Pillar of Growth
Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing education under the Arise Agenda, citing ongoing support for AKSU. These include:
– Award of contracts for internal road construction at the main campus.
– Payment of subventions and bursaries to students in tertiary institutions.
– Strengthening infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.
Call for Discipline and Character
The Governor urged the newly inaugurated Governing Council to enforce zero tolerance for cultism and anti-social activities, stressing that degrees must reflect both learning and character. He encouraged students to remain focused on building strong intellectual foundations for future success.
