Inyeneobong Hilary Essien, an Akwa Ibom indigene from Ikono Local Government Area, has shared an emotional account of securing a state government appointment five years after she says she lost her job with the Katsina State Government.
In a Facebook testimony titled “Behold My Appointment Letter,” Essien described the appointment as a turning point after years of financial uncertainty and emotional distress.
According to her account, she lost her previous job alongside other non-indigenes, leaving her worried about how to meet the responsibilities on her shoulders.
“Five years ago, when I lost my job with the Katsina State Government, along with other non-indigenes, my world came to a standstill,” she wrote.
Essien said she subsequently applied for employment through the ARISE Portal but initially had little confidence in her chances, believing that she needed influential backing to secure a government job.
“I applied for the state job on the Arise Portal, half-heartedly, because I thought I needed to have a godfather to be employed,” she stated.
She said she completed the recruitment stages and performed well but remained reluctant to raise her hopes until the appointment came through.
Describing the process as merit-based, Essien expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno and the Akwa Ibom State Government for the opportunity.
The appointment letter shared alongside her account bears the name Inyeneobong Hilary Essien and is dated October 1, 2026. Issued in the name of the State Technical Schools Board, it indicates an appointment effective from the same date and directs the recipient to report to the Permanent Secretary in Uyo for deployment.
The copy has several details redacted, including the job designation and salary amount.
For Essien, the appointment represents renewed hope after a difficult period. She ended her testimony with words of appreciation for her home state and its governor: “Long live Akwa Ibom State! Long live My Governor!”
