The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, citing ongoing infrastructure projects, human capital investments, and economic support initiatives undertaken across the council area.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Uyo Media Group at the Council Secretariat in Uyo on Monday, Dr Udo highlighted key interventions undertaken by his administration, including the construction of 14 ARISE Compassionate Homes across the wards, provision of transformers, electrification of communities, and the implementation of solar-powered water schemes to improve access to potable water.
He noted that the first beneficiary of the housing initiatives in Nsukara Offot has already taken possession of a fully furnished home, complete with a borehole and financial support, while other projects are at various stages of completion and expected to be delivered before the end of the year.
The council chairman also disclosed that a total of ₦100 million has been disbursed to support small businesses within the local government, with beneficiaries receiving between ₦1 million and ₦5 million. According to him, the initiative is aimed at boosting local enterprise and improving livelihoods.
Dr Udo attributed the relative peace and stability in Uyo since he assumed office in 2020 to the prudent management of resources and the timely fulfilment of obligations, including the regular payment of salaries and statutory entitlements to both the legislative and executive arms of the council.
He further aligned his administration’s efforts with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno, noting that governance at the local level continues to complement the vision of the state government under the ARISE Agenda.
Dr Udo called on media practitioners of the Uyo Media Group to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their reportage. He emphasized the role of the media in shaping public perception and urged practitioners to remain objective and responsible in the discharge of their duties.
In a move to strengthen media capacity, the Chairman announced plans to sponsor members of the group for professional certification at the International Institute of Journalism, describing the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to investing in knowledge-driven sectors.
In response, the Chairman of the Uyo Media Group, Elder Patrick Albert, described the group as a coalition of media professionals and social media influencers from Uyo Local Government Area.
Albert noted that the group has continued to engage stakeholders and highlight the performance of Uyo indigenes in government, adding that their commendations are based on verifiable achievements.
He commended Dr Udo’s leadership, describing it as impactful and visible, and assured that the group would continue to serve as a reliable partner in projecting government activities through various media platforms.
In a goodwill message, the Group’s Adviser, Sir Godwin Okon, thanked the Chairman of Uyo LGA for his consistent support and recognition of the media’s role in development.
He assured that the group would continue to partner with the council in promoting its activities and ensuring responsible reportage that reflects the progress being made across the local government.

In his remarks, Dr Udo appreciated the group for its support and encouraged experienced practitioners to mentor younger members, stressing the need to build a stronger and more progressive Uyo for future generations.
