
Finally, The industrial action embarked upon by members of NASU and SSANIP in the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua has been suspended.
This follows the singing of an agreement by the leadership of the non-teaching Unions and officials of the State government led by the Head of Civil Service Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan supported by the Honorary Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Comrade Unyime Usoro and the Ag. Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institution Dr. Samuel Edet.
In the resolution, both parties agreed to forward the report of the committee on harmonisation of schemes of service in tertiary institutions to the Polytechnics’ management for implementation.
It was also resolved that the Governing Council of the Institution shall initiate action to review the law establishing the Institution to address issues of tenure of principal officers and 65 years retirement age.
With this development, full academic activities are expected to resume in the Polytechnic tomorrow.
