Member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mark Esset has reiterated the fact that democracy is the best form of Government which gives hope to a common man.
He said this during an interview session with AKBC-TV correspondent today in his office.
According to the lawmaker, “the worst level of democracy is better than the best military dictatorship. Despite the present situation, democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. We are hopeful that beyond the cloud there is a silver lining. We grow by the day, we fall, we make mistakes and I am hopeful that democracy will be celebrated in our country as it is in other climes. There has been some disagreement between the center and the states, rancour, security challenges but those have not broken us. I joined other Nigerians to celebrate democracy as the best form of Government.”
He however felicitated with the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the one year drive into the completion agenda of the State Government and taking the welfare of citizenry to heart.
The Nsit Atai Lawmaker commended the courage of the Governor and the State’s medical team in tackling Covid-19 pandemic. He called on Akwaibomites to abide by the basic hygiene directives of washing of hands, social distancing and using of face/nose mask.
He acknowledged the robust relationship between the Executive and the Legislature which has lubricated the wheels of governance.
On the President’s assent to the autonomy of the Judiciary and Legislative arm of government, Elder Esset said it not about the assent but setting modalities for its effective running.
According to him, the Legislature is a place where different interest are represented and you can not expect everyone to speak in support of a matter every time as they represent different people.
“What happened in Akwa Ibom State during the Sixth Assembly was the decision of the House. We are from different backgrounds and different opinions. The sixth Assembly keyed in to the Judiciary and legislative autonomy. It is not about signing an executive bill, it is a constitutional matter which was amended. What ought to have followed was the implementation modalities for smooth running of the policy so it will not bring conflict in the system.
“It is however a welcome development as it will bring independency to all arms of government which I subscribe to and we pray for the effective workability.”
On the progress of the 7th Assembly, the lawmaker said “the bills and resolutions are proofs that the Assembly is people oriented and hoping to have a very robust relationship as we progress to deliver on the promises we all made to Akwa Ibom people at the end of our tenure.”
Speaking on the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic, Elder Esset said the pandemic has opened the eyes of humans world over that where scientific knowledge fails, God remains the surest answer.
Also, it has taught people to improve their hygiene condition and be health conscious.
