
The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital on Thursday affirmed Mr Udom Emmanuel the winner of the at the March 9, 2019 governorship elections.
Obong Nsima Ekere the candidate of All Progressives Congress and the Party had, on May 29, 2019, filed a petition challenging the result of the polls which saw the re-election of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The Petitioners approached the tribunal stating that Mr Udom Emmanuel was not duly elected by a majority of lawful votes cast at the election citing that the election was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2015.
The three man panel chaired by Chief Justice A.M Yusuf, unanimously upheld the elections of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, dismissing the petition of Obong Nsima Ekere and the All Progressives Congress, APC for lack of merit.
