Security /Leadership Summit 2018: Uyo LG Chairman caution youths to shun Cultism

The Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council Elder (Hon) Imoh Okon has today cautioned youths and students of Higher Institutions of learning against cultism and all manner of social vices capable of endangering their future.

This he said during the Security and Leadership Summit, organized by the National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS) Akwa Ibom State chapter in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, AKS Command as part of the ways in tackling the menace of cult activities in the state.

Speaking with newsmen, Elder Okon who was a special guest at the event decried the high rate of Cultism among the youths, saying “it has really eaten deep and destroyed the norms and traditions of our society.”

He advised them to remember that the future is utmost and therefore they should not in any way use their own hands to undermined what is lying ahead of them.

The council chairman went further to plead with politicians and other stakeholders to desist from patronizing the services of cultists especially during elections.

In his words “I must really commend the Nigerian Students and the Nigerian Police Force for this insightful summit, I must say it is indeed timely and rewarding, especially in the face rampant killings in the society ”

Speaking at the event, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police Cp Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi who presented a paper on the theme: Cultism As An Impediment To Students’ Future explained the dangers of cultism to the Nigerian Students while he listed some possible ways of curbing this menace in the society.

Among the dignitaries invited to grace the auspicious occasion include the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters / Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Youth Caucus, Mr. Aniefiok Iwaudofia, ALGON Chairman, Rt. Hon. Frank Archibong, Chairman of Uyo LGA, Elder Imoh Okon, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene LGA, Hon. Unyime Etim, Lecturers, students & youths.

Speaking at the occasion, the SSA to the Governor on Youth Matters, Mr. Aniefiok Iwaudofia thanked the organisers for the collaborative colloquium designed to raise public consciousness on the issues of security & leadership. He charged students to refrain from any unlawful act that is inimical to their future.
According to Mr. Iwaudofia, the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel is preaching peace & has done a lot to retool the youths through creation of job opportunities, integration into governance, floating of scholarship scheme & by God’s grace, youths have been taken back to God. Hence, the State is known for peace & rapid development instead of flashpoint of violence & threats.
