…plans song competition for Choir groups in Uyo
The First Lady of Uyo Local Government Area, Deaconess Imoh Okon has said that out of her many lofty programmes so far iniated by the office of the wife of the Chairman, the one known as “TIME ALONE WITH GOD” is first among what she wish her successor to emulate and continue.
The First Lady stated this during the maiden edition of the programme – TIME ALONE WITH GOD which took place at the Uyo Local Government Council Hall on Thursday 19th October, 2018.
‘Time alone with God’ is a prayer-packed programme organized by the Chairman’s wife for Uyo women to pray for the peace, unity, love, development and the leadership of Uyo Local Government Council.
The maiden edition which was officiated by Pastor (Mrs.) Peace Nyeneime Andy had all the women leaders in Uyo Local Government Area in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Idaresit Imoh Okon said ‘Time alone with God’ is born out of her desire to seek the face of God, together with Uyo women, on the present leadership and political turbulence in Uyo and the state in general, emphasizing that, like Governor Udom Emmanuel admonished, it’s “ONLY GOD” that can intervene for the people of Uyo and Akwa Ibom State. According to her, in life, one needs a special time to comune with God alone, especially in a challenging moment like now, stressing that there is nothing prayer cannot do.
Further, she said it is the responsibility of women to pray for their husbands to succeed in whatever situation they find themselves and therefore tasked women across the eleven wards of Uyo Local Government to be part of the monthly prayer programme for the overall interest of Uyo Local Government Area and the state in general.
While thanking participants of the maiden prayer programme, the First Lady subsequent editions of the programme will be richly packaged and will be featuring one choir group from one ward in Uyo each month. She added that the ‘TIME ALONE WITH GOD’ will give birth to a choir competition involving choir groups from the eleven wards of Uyo with special praise and worship service and therefore charged on women coordinators from all the wards to start preparing for the choir contest.
The prayer programme was followed by breast cancer awareness also organized by the wife of the Chairman in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Akwa Ibom State branch on Saturday 20th October, 2018.
Among those who participated in the breast cancer awareness the President of the Medical Women Association, Dr Christie Akwaowo, the Secretary of Uyo Local Government Council, Lady Stella Udoh, the wife of the PDP candidate for 2019 Uyo State Constituency, Mrs. Mercy Anietie Eka, Councillor representing ward 8, Hon. Imaobong Samuel and female students from different institutions.
Highlight of the breast cancer awareness was sensitization by medical experts and free medical check up.
Meanwhile, Deaconess Idaresit Okon had urged beneficiaries of the free entrepreneurial and skill acquisition training programme organized by the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council to take advantage of the opportunity to secure a better future for themselves and their families, noting that such opportunity is usually once in a lifetime.
She gave the urge while paying an inspection visit to the trainees at the training center located at Udotung Ubo Street, Uyo.
Accompanied by some women leaders and her Personal Aides, the First Lady restated the commitment of the Council Chairman towards delivering his campaign promises which had robust empowerment and active social welfare as key agenda. She maintained that with the level of quality and people oriented leadership currently in Uyo Local Government Area, the future of Uyo is bound to be great and therefore called for more support and prayers for the government of Elder Imoh Okon and the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to enable them do more before the expiration of their tenure.
