There are journeys with a determined destination, but some merely pause, by constitutional provisions, to gather momentum. For Akwa Ibom State, May 29, 2027, will be a comma in an unfolding story of vision, purpose, and progress.
Like the radiant city in the Book of Revelation, where the New Jerusalem descends adorned in splendour, unveiling a new order of hope and glory, the fourth year of Governor Umo Eno’s first term promises to reveal the fuller beauty of seeds carefully planted and faithfully nurtured.
The dawn does not argue with the night; it simply arrives with light. And when the appointed season comes, the harvest speaks louder than the plough.
While many count the years, Governor Umo Eno has remained focused on making the years count. His attention has never been on the calendar but on the people, on projects that touch lives and position Akwa Ibom for enduring prosperity.
Importantly, the developmental strides of the Eno administration are not the product of a flight-by-night approach to governance. They are rooted in a carefully conceived and widely articulated blueprint—the ARISE Agenda, which was presented to the people of Akwa Ibom for scrutiny, review, and collective ownership. During the Ibom Dialogue held from July 24–27, 2023, experts, academics, industry leaders, and stakeholders examined the Agenda’s pillars and implementation roadmap. On July 27, 2023, the ARISE Agenda was formally unveiled to the public, earning broad acceptance and ratification across the various segments of Akwa Ibom society. What the State is witnessing today is therefore not accidental, but the deliberate execution of a vision that was thoughtfully designed, publicly interrogated, and overwhelmingly embraced by the people.
The first three years laid a solid foundation of projects, commissionings, policy interventions, and the enunciation of audacious initiatives that are steadily redefining the development trajectory of the State. The fourth year is shaping up to be the crowning flourish, the icing on a development cake already rich with promise.
As the beauty of a sunset often signals the splendour of a new dawn, so too will this final year of the first term unveil the fruits of intentional governance. What began as vision, strategy, and construction is increasingly translating into tangible socio-economic benefits for the people.
Through the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State, landmark projects stand as visible testimonies to purposeful leadership. Some have been completed and commissioned; many more are rapidly approaching completion. Yet the Governor’s appetite for development remains undiminished.
This is the year when many of those investments will begin yielding measurable returns.
The ARISE Palm Resort, conceived as a catalyst for ecological remediation and tourism development, is steadily moving towards full productivity. Soon, conversations will shift from the remarkable transformation of once-degraded land to the tourism opportunities, wealth creation, and employment prospects the project will generate.
That tourism masterpiece recently drew the admiration of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, during her visit to Akwa Ibom. After touring several strategic projects, including the ARISE Palm Resort, Ibom Convention Centre, Ibom Hotel, ARISE Shopping City, Medical City, and the Senior Citizens Centre, she described Governor Umo Eno as “a phenomenal and intentional leader.” Particularly impressed by the ARISE Palm Resort, she praised the creativity and vision behind transforming what was once a desolate gully into a tourism and economic asset and commended the administration’s resolve to complete long-abandoned projects.
The just-completed smart terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport will likewise unlock fresh possibilities. Scheduled international flights will not merely connect destinations; they will connect Akwa Ibom to broader streams of commerce, investment, and global relevance.
The significance of this infrastructure was further underscored by the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, Rt. Hon. Leke Agbejide, who, on Sunday, July 14, 2026, arrived in Uyo through the terminal. Amazed by what he encountered, he remarked that “if the airport reflected such beauty, I can only imagine what the rest of the state looks like.” His spontaneous reaction echoed the growing national recognition of Akwa Ibom’s transformation.
Then come other towering pillars of the tourism economy—the 5000 capacity Ibom International Convention Centre , the Ibom International Hotel and the ARISE Shopping City . As these assets at the Convention Arena come alive, they will enrich the State’s hospitality landscape and further affirm the wisdom of investing in long-term growth.
In healthcare, the vision is equally compelling. With the Ibom International Hospital taking shape and the Senior Citizens Centre already serving its purpose, Akwa Ibom is positioning itself as a destination for medical tourism. Strengthened by brand-new primary healthcare centres across the 31 local government areas, a health insurance scheme with over 220,000 enrollees, innovative emergency ambulance services, and a new oxygen plant, the administration continues to underscore its commitment to the wellbeing of the people.
There is exciting news emerging from the Uyo ecological remediation and city renewal project. The Uyo Village Road corridor and the New Jerusalem initiative are opening up a new cityscape from the relics of a former dumpsite into a modern GRA, complemented by a film and creative village. Yet, true to his style, Governor Eno prefers accomplishments to announcements. Results, not rhetoric, remain his language of leadership.
Beyond the over 1,300 kilometres of roads and 40 bridges already delivered or under construction, there is growing anticipation surrounding what many observers consider one of the administration’s most transformative urban renewal visions. The Governor is preparing to unveil the outlook of a new Uyo—an emerging “New Jerusalem” whose beauty, order, and modernity promise to redefine the landscape of the state capital.
Carefully designed boulevards, public spaces, architectural landmarks, and aesthetic masterpieces are gradually taking shape. When fully unveiled, the vision is expected to stun the imagination of even the finest architects, showcasing what becomes possible when purposeful leadership meets creativity, planning, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
The fourth year will witness multiple road dualisation projects and high-level commissionings across the State. Some projects are completed; others are nearing completion; still more are advancing steadily, creating pathways to prosperity.
Farmers, too, have every reason for optimism. The Ibom Model Farm is laying the groundwork for agro-tourism, increased productivity, and agricultural prosperity. Like fields rejoicing at the first rains, the agricultural sector is preparing for a season of abundance as the equipment leasing facility, the tree crops revolution, and the distribution of seedlings to farmers continue to boost food production across the State.
In the energy sector, the foundation for stable power supply is being firmly established. With the State Electricity Commission already at work, the vision of a brighter and more economically competitive Akwa Ibom is gradually becoming reality. Indeed, one can almost hear the echo: “Let there be light.” And light shall come.
Youth development and empowerment will continue through opportunity hubs such as the Youth Development Centres built across the State and equipped with skills acquisition programmes and targeted interventions designed to unlock potential and create pathways to success. The benefits of these initiatives, including sports development programmes, will continue to reverberate across the State.
As political activities gradually gather momentum, Governor Eno’s well-known commitment to peaceful, issue-based politics remains unchanged. Governance and service delivery will continue to take precedence, with politics serving as a natural and enabling complement.
Meanwhile, one of the State’s most anticipated economic aspirations draws ever closer—the Ibom Deep Seaport. Like a mighty vessel approaching harbour after a long voyage, the project is steadily navigating towards reality. Its eventual emergence will open vast opportunities in maritime commerce, logistics, industrialisation, and economic expansion.
What a remarkable year lies ahead, a year of unveiling, commissioning, consolidation, and a year in which vision increasingly becomes reality.
Yet beyond roads, airports, hospitals, and grand infrastructure lies an enduring legacy: the compassion that defines Governor Eno’s leadership. The warmth of human kindness that has characterised his administration continues to shine, reminding us that true development is ultimately about people. Here come the beneficiaries of nearly 450 ARISE Compassionate Homes, the over 600,000 vulnerable households that have accessed the free food programme, and the countless citizens empowered across the State.
Still, this is only a glimpse of what lies ahead. We have seen the outline of the promise as its full manifestation sets sail.
Like the Revelation vision of a city descending in splendour, with its gates opened to new possibilities and its streets illuminated with hope, Akwa Ibom is rising steadily towards a brighter horizon.
2027 will be a year of touchdown and immediate take-off, a connecting flight between achievement and greater accomplishments.
The plane is already on final approach. The landing gear is engaged for the delivery of ARISE 1.0. Yet this landing is only preparation for a higher ascent into ARISE 2.0, with Governor Umo Eno firmly in the cockpit for the connecting flight to 2031—an era of even greater prosperity.
Say a good prayer this morning for Akwa Ibom State.
Happy Day, Folks!
