Six councillors in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the eve of the general elections, are currently living in regrets.
Investigations revealed that things are no longer rosy for the councillors who have been jobless and broke since defection, as they were sacked from the local government council after the council was resolved, seizing them from representing their respective wards.
According to them, Godswill Akpabio has succeeded in ruining their modest political careers while he now junkets about with party leadership for his selfish gain.
One of the frustrated former councillors, in a chat with newsmen, lamented that Akpabio’s failure to fulfill his promise of ‘rewarding’ them with N10 million each for their loyalty, has been flouted.
However, the sacked councillors have been pestering the Council Chairman, Raphael Isobara, pleading with him to help convey their apologies and regrets to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Six of the 11 councillors at the centre of the defection drama were Messrs Uduakobong Udoutin, the leader of the Essien Udim Legislative Council; Ekerete Akpakpan, deputy; Okokon Uwak, the House Leader; Uduak Afangideh, Deputy House Leader; Edemeka Udoekpe and Eseme Akpan.
