State government moves to empower livestock producers for the production of wholesome meats ,promotion of environmental hygiene and guarantee of safety human lives have been intensified in Akwa Ibom
The Commissioner,Ministry of Agriculture,Dr Glory Edet gave the confirmation today at the Ministry’s grounds during the distribution of free logistics and bio security materials to veterinary clinics and livestock farmers.The distribution of the free materials was organised by the Akwa Ibom State ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Regional Disease Surveillance System Enhancement (REDDISSE) Project of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Commissioner used the occasion to highlight the various achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in area of agriculture which are all geared towards touching the lives of the citizenry with robust contribution to the industrial development of the state.
She thanked the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for partnering with the state Ministry of Agriculture in the supply and distribution of logistics equipment for easy movement and other inputs to farmers in state.She reiterated the state governor commitment to continue to encourage farmers in the state with the free distribution of farm inputs,agro chemicals, professional advice, etc. with the ultimate vision of attaining food sufficiency in the state.
Dr Glory Edet urged the beneficiaries of free logistics equipment and farm inputs to make good use of items received for the observation of bio security conditions of livestock management and production to boost healthy and safety of animal products suitable for human consumption.
Earlier,the State Direction of Veterinary and Pests Control Services,Dr Obot Obot lauded the Akwa Ibom State government and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for the supply of logistics equipment and other farm inputs to enhance day to day management of the livestock farms in the state.
He maintained that the distribution of the free materials to veterinary clinics would facilitate prompt inspection of livestock businesses and ensure good healthy condition of the meat products for quality human lives,adding that public health services can never be complete without proper veterinary services.
In their separate speeches,the programme manager, AKADEP, Mr Okon Ndehedehe;the state director,Federal Ministry of Agriculture,Dr Uyobong Uko,and the state Chairman,All Farmers Association of Nigeria(AFAN) Prince Bassey Inwang spoke on the need for consumers safety and called on farmers to strive to be bio security conscious in farm management.
They equally applauded the Akwa Ibom governor for his huge investment in agriculture and appreciated the federal ministry of agriculture for the synergy with the state towards the promotion of the agriculture sector and called on the farmers to always avail themselves of the free professional advices from the relevant government departments.
The high point of the occasion was the distribution of logistics equipment including Tricycles; Motorcycles; Sprayers and Agro chemicals to the beneficiaries by the Honourable Commissioner of Agriculture,Dr Glory Edet assisted by the Permanent Secretary,Dr John Markson and Dr Uyobong Uno,State Director of Agriculture,Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
