…outlines events to celebrate 2019 workers’ day

The Commissioner for Economic Development, Labour and Manpower Planning, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has lauded the smooth conduct of Eighth Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The Conference which climaxed with the election of new leaders of the NLC in the State, also marked the beginning of activities towards the celebration of 2019 Workers’ Day.

In a press release following the successful conclusion of the Conference in the State, the Honourable Commissioner congratulated the newly elected NLC Chairman, Comrade Sunny James and his entire EXCO and urged them to maintain values that will move the State forward, while assuring that Government will work closely with the Labour leader to ensure that Akwa Ibom workers are happy and well-motivated.

According to the release, other events lined up to celebrate the 2019 Workers’ Day in Akwa Ibom include:

  • a Special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, April 28, at the Mount Zion Light House Full Gospel Church, Mbiabong Anyanya, before Timber Market, Oron road, Uyo;
  • a commemorative symposium on Tuesday, April 30, at the Mandela Banquet Hall, Watbridge Hotels and Suites, 11 A/B IBB Avenue, opposite Ibom Hall, Uyo; and
  • the grand finale on Wednesday, May 1, at the Uyo Township Stadium.

The Honourable Commissioner has therefore invited to grace the events, the labour-friendly Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and his wife, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel, the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Moses Ekpo, MFR, the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke and the Honourable Chief Judge of the State, His Lordship, Justice Godwin Abraham.

Others also invited the Senators elect from the 3 Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State, Members and Members elect of the House of Representatives from the State, Members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Members of the State Executive Council, Chairman and Executives of the Peoples Democratic Party and other political partis in the State, Chairmen and Members of Boards in the State, Chairmen of Local Government Councils, Traditional Rulers, the Clergy and the press.

Leaders and members of the organized Labour and affiliate unions and the entire workers’ community of Akwa Ibom State are also invited, as the events promise to be worthwhile.
