Women in Oron Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, are currently undergoing skills acquisition training facilitated by the Dakkada Women Entrepreneurship and Mentorship Programme, DWEMP, Directorate of Marketing and Brand Management, Office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
With participants drawn across party divides from Oron, Okobo, and Udung Uko, the 3-day training holding at Oron LGA Council hall kicked off yesterday, Monday, July 19, 2021, and continues today, with resource persons taking the participants through the practical aspect of the program.
The initiative, coordinated by the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Marketing and Brand Management, Mrs. Lydia Udoh, offers training to rural women in Catering and Confectionery, Hairdressing, Decoration, Tailoring, Cosmetology, and Soap production, among others.
At the end of the exercise, participants will receive a certificate and starter packs, with a follow-up unit commissioned to monitor and evaluate their progress as well as offer technical assistance.
Present at the kick off was the Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, Hon. Anthony Bassey Etim, and some Councillors from the area.
DWEMP had organized a similar training and presented start-up packs to women in Mbo, Urue-offong/Oruko, Abak, Etim Ekpo, Ika, Orukanam, Ibeno, Mkpat Enin, Ukanafun, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, and Eastern Obolo.
Dakkada Women Entrepreneurship and Mentorship Programme, DWEMP, helps women in rural communities to achieve economic sustainability and entrepreneurial development by equipping them with the necessary skills to ensure their participation in the economic development of their various communities.
