DIARY OF A LEGISLATOR: Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke

” Speaker Onofiok Luke,  we are grooming you up for a greater tomorrow. We see you taking over from us. There is a generational change and you have not failed us,” – Dr Val Attah,deputy leader of Uyo Senatorial district elders forum during a stakeholders meeting of Uyo and Eket senatorial district elders at Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga’s country home at Ikot Nya.

February 2018 will remain a historic month for Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke,as elders and leaders of Uyo and Eket senatorial district poured Encomiums on him,for his effective representation since he got elected into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, to represent the good people of Nsit Ubium State Constituency,as well as his excellence leadership as the Speaker of the 6th Assembly.

According to Martin Luther King Jr. ” If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.

Onofiok Luke without any gainsaying has done his job well,by providing effective representation to his people, carrying out his legislative functions at the House of Assembly with sincerity of purpose. It is important to note that the sixth Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, one of the youngest ,pragmatic Speaker of house of Assembly in Nigeria, subjects all the bills passed by the to public hearing, for the inputs of the general public,stakeholders in different areas of concern to be considered,for the purpose of efficiency and accountability.

The elders and leaders of Uyo and Eket senatorial district,who converged at the residence of Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga,at Ikot Nya in Nsit Ibom local government area,for a thank you visit by the Eket senatorial district Elders forum,to their Uyo District counterparts,was to show appreciations for all the supports the elders of Uyo senatorial district have given to Governor Udom Emmanuel so far.

The chairman of Eket elders forum,Chief Nduese Essien who conveyed the position of the forum to the elders of Uyo senatorial district, used the occasion to appreciate the efforts of the sixth Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Onofiok,for the cordial relationship that exist between the Executive and the Legislature, all aimed at moving Akwa Ibom State forward.

” Infact he was the one we supported from the beginning as the right choice for the position, and despite being denied at first, he later emerged at the time he did, and we can all see that he is performing creditably well.”
Chief Nduese Essien said.

The Chairman Board of Trustees, Uyo Senatorial district elders forum,Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, expressed satisfaction with the ability of Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke in liasing with the State Governor,Deacon Udom Emmanuel for the development of the State,for a greater Akwa Ibom.

” They called you an iron seal, no longer rubber stamp. Don’t be deterred but continue to partner with the governor in the overall interest of our people,” Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga said.

To Aristotle “ Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Onofiok Luke has imbibe the habit of always getting things done the right way, he has been able to carry both the young and the elderly along in his legislative activities, within and outside his community. This has endeared him to many people. He is one politician who is humility personified.

The elders of Uyo and Eket senatorial district spoke in one voice as regard the successes recorded by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration,thereby endorsing the Governor for a second term.

In the same vein,the elders and leaders of the two senatorial district maintained that the performance of Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke as the legislator is superlative,and that he has justified his current position, as the peoples Speaker.
